Marathon ranking for all: official time on screen

To find a result of the Marathon for All from Paris 2024, first check the distance: the results of the 42,195 km marathon and those of the 10 km marathon are distinct. Then look for the participant by name or number, then check the type of time displayed. An individual time, a general rank and a place in a category do not designate the same thing.

Here are the benchmarks for reading the results, comparing performance and understanding the numbers of this race open to amateurs in the Olympic Games.

Find a result: starting from the right race

Research « marathon classification for all » may lead to several lists, but also to the results of the Paris Marathon, another event. Before you search for a name, make sure the page concerns the Marathon for All related to the Paris 2024 Olympics, then select the run distance.

Results directories such as Kikourou and MarathonView allow searching for events. To check a performance, choose, when it remains accessible, the publication of the organizer or timekeeper. A list from elsewhere may be less detailed or correspond to an earlier version of the results.

  1. Identify the distance: Marathon or 10 km.
  2. Enter the last name: try without any accent or trait of union if the search returns nothing.
  3. Use the bib: It makes it possible to distinguish homonyms.
  4. Open the individual file: check the name, time and possible intermediate passages.
  5. Check filters: a selected category may mask the desired participant.

A search in the page sometimes only covers visible lines. If the table is spread over several pages, use its own search field rather than the browser field. The absence of a name on the first screen therefore does not mean that the person has not finished.

Read the general ranking, real time and categories

The rank only makes sense with its title. The general classification, or scratchbring together participants from the relevant list. The rankings by sex and age group isolate a smaller group. The same person can thus have several places, all accurate, but not the same comparison.

Information displayed What it says Point to be checked
General Position among listed participants Distance and population retained
Gender Position in corresponding classification Active filter in table
Age category Position in a sports section or category Category code and definition
Official time Time calculated according to the starting reference used Timekeeping rules
Real or net time Duration between personal departure and arrival Presence of an individual measure at the start

Why two times can be different

With departures in several waves or sas, not all riders cross the line at the same time. Depending on the system used, official and net time may therefore differ. To compare two personal performances, use the same column and check how the ranking is sorted.

The classification acts as a mould: it gives a common form to very different efforts. In order not to let this shape crush your own performance, keep three markers together: time, row and race conditions. A slower time on a demanding route can translate a better effort management than a record achieved on a flat route. The rank describes a position; He doesn't sum up the whole race.

To identify the first men and women, see the top lines of each ranking, without limiting yourself to an age-filtered table. No nominative podium should be deduced from a simple list of times without verified rows.

Participation figures and the course to keep in mind

The marathon represents 42,195 km, on a route between Paris and Versailles before the return to the capital, through 9 municipalities. This layout and its relief give an indispensable context for reading performances: it does not compare directly to a uniformly flat marathon.

  • 20,024 riders announced : the symbolic quota associated with marathon distance.
  • 17,361 participants on the marathon: a figure to be distinguished from the quota announced.
  • 9 p.m. The departure schedule of the marathon, organised in the evening.
  • Two distinct distances: The marathon and the 10 km, with their own results.

It is also necessary to distinguish between registrants, departures, arrivals and finishers actually classified. These terms are not interchangeable. The reconciliation between 20,024 advertised places and 17,361 participants is therefore not sufficient to calculate a number of abandonments: it would be necessary to know precisely the numbers at departure and on arrival.

A night race, not an ordinary marathon

The event took place on the night of August 10-11, 2024, which explains why research or archives may reveal one or the other date. The departure in the evening, the passages in Paris and the detour through Versailles gave the event a special identity. To interpret a slowdown, look at his position on the course rather than automatically see a failure.

Finally, the results of amateurs should not be mixed with those of the Olympic marathon. Sharing the Games framework does not create a common ranking between these events.

Celebrities performance: compare the right distances

The personalities offer meaningful benchmarks, provided they do not transform their participation into an official sports category. Their results remain individual performances, to be found in the list of the distance concerned.

Participant or group Distance Time reported
Mathieu Blanchard Marathon 3 h 05 min 15 s
Amandine Small Marathon 5 h 26 min 17 s
Short format characters 10 km Times between 0104 and 0111

These examples are neither an exhaustive list of celebrities nor the podium of the Marathon for All. To compare a participant to Mathieu Blanchard or Amandine Petit, check first that the time taken is of the same nature: net or official.

On the 10 km, lead times ranging from 30 min 23 s at 34 min 46 s are among the reported results. However, this beach alone does not make it possible to reconstruct the order of arrival or the podiums by sex. Similarly, a better performance in a list is not automatically a record: this qualification requires precise reference and validation.

To keep or share your result, note distance, exact time, time type and row with its title. This four information makes performance understandable, even when the original picture is no longer in front of the eyes.
