For over 140 years,SNBSIncarnates exactly what I like to pass on to my rowers: a rare balance between sporting requirements and sincere hospitality, or even the shyest one quickly finds his marks, whether he is simple curious or seasoned competitor. Whether on the Seine or during the sessionsAviFit, team spirit, solid management and a warm atmosphere set the scene for a human-scale adventure, marked by memories, unexpected anecdotes and real progress.

Some report that after a few weeks, rowing becomes almost a pretext for personal exchanges and development, far beyond mere sporting practice.

Who are we? A sporty, human and local adventure since 1882

The Société Nautique de la Basse Seine (SNBS) is not just about a rowing club. It is a sports institution located in the heart of Courbevoie, open all year long to all those who want to discover excellence on the Seine in a relaxed and respectful atmosphere. Those who push the door to President Paul Doumer's 26 Pier, 92400 Courbevoie, are amazed at the diversity of the profiles present – from the first hesitant rowing shots to the faithful enthusiasts for decades, each one ends up in a face that reassures or inspires him.

A centenary club, vector of mix and modernity

The club, founded in 1882, won a special place among the great French rowing structures thanks to its open mind and its commitment to mutual aid. A historical pedigree that does not prevent innovation – multi-level internships, AviFit, constant openness to new practices. Here, tradition and dynamism blend naturally.

Many tell of the curiosity that led them to rowing a bit by chance: the first time I crossed this portal, I had the feeling of rediscovering the Seine, ready to be part of a story bigger than mine.

  • 140 yearshistory and local anchoring that forge a solid identity
  • Members from all walks of life: adolescents, adults, seniors, families
  • Notable participation in the national regattas and confirmed presence in Île-de-France
  • Association governanceCommunity involvement

Keep in mind: the SNBS embodies urban conviviality and nautical performance, without ever losing the modesty and welcoming spirit that make the difference in historical clubs.

Discover our nautical activities, AviFit and internships all levels

Want to change your routines or to understand the Seine differently? Within the club, each rower moves at their own pace, accompanied by a careful team ready to advise, correct or encourage. The range of activities delights those looking for relaxation, physical progression and the thrill of the competition, as well as lovers of walks or fitness training on rowing (AviFit).

It is precisely the wealth and variety of proposals that regularly surprises newcomers.

Sections for all, from initiation to the high level

At SNBS, the offer of activities is designed to attract both curious and experienced rowers. Some start with a trial session before engaging and end up discovering an unexpected discipline. The proposals include:

  • Practice of rowing in various forms: initiation, improvement, competition, young people and masters
  • Internships discovered during the school holidays: a week to try out in a relaxed atmosphere
  • AviFit sessions: fitness sessions on rower, dynamic, between45 and 60 minutes
  • Exits to the Seine: hikes, nature days or even explorations in the city (according to desires and weather)

What you need to know: a large part of the members start with an essay or internship, particularly appreciated by families or groups of friends. Many talk about the recognized quality of rowing tanks (simulators on land), which reassure and allow to learn even without experience or special physical condition – a trainer recently stressed how this tool dedramatizes the first experience for many adults returning to sport after several years.

Focus on innovation and education

The introduction of AviFit courses seduces young people from the age of 16 and allows us to discover the rowing boat differently, without necessarily putting the boat to the water. These sessions, offered all year round, are particularly useful for varying his exercises or maintaining the shape when conditions on the Seine do not lend themselves to them.

It should be noted that progress is closely monitored by experienced coaches, always available to help correct a gesture or raise a doubt (we sometimes hear personalized advice that makes all the difference when handling machines). Does pedagogy work on everyone? It seems that most people enjoy coming back, precisely thanks to this kind accompaniment.

Good to know

I recommend you take advantage of the AviFit sessions that allow you to discover the rowing without going out on the water and improve your fitness regardless of weather conditions.

Access to the club and registration procedures: simple, fast and reassuring

We often hesitate before taking the step – especially without knowing the exact steps. Here the emphasis is on transparency and simplicity. SNBS ensures that registration does not become an administrative combatant's path: this is felt in every exchange with volunteers as in the first online exchanges.

Accession, testing and formalities – how to register?

Registration can be done online or directly at the club, accompanied by a well-functioning team to welcome new members. In principle, most begin with a trial session – frequent and sometimes offered at different times.

To complete the registration, nothing is simpler: a medical certificate ( fitness for sport), the completed form, a photo and the regulation of the annual fee are required.

Section Annual tariff (2023-2024)
Adult leisure row between 350 and 440 €
Youth/students around 230 to 350 €
Master/Open Competition up to 480 €
AviFit about 150 to 220 € for a semester
Discovery workshop around 90 to 120 € for a week

If you hesitate, remember that the club offers payment facilities and discounts for families – very convenient when you think about the re-entry in September. A former treasurer also indicated that these little kicks make a difference for many families, especially when several members arrive at the same time.

Planning, contacts and access

The SNBS welcomes its members every day, with slots adapted to each one's constraints: mornings on weekdays, weekend training, internships during holidays. You can reach the club at the 26 Quai of President Paul Doumer, a few minutes walk from Courbevoie Train Station (easy access by RER or Transilien).

For the anecdote, it has already happened to me to arrive breathless after having run because of a late bus: the welcome has always remained courteous and encouraging, even in these cases.

  • Address: 26 Quai du Président Paul Doumer, 92400 Courbevoie
  • Contacts (email and telephone) and form available on the official website
  • Useful documents: statutes, rules of procedure, fee schedule to download online

Another point to keep in mind: the number of places is limited each season in order to guarantee quality supervision. So do not wait until the last minute to register – it is recommended that you anticipate your registration before the start of the season to avoid any disappointment.

Framework, security and equipment – guarantees for all

Security Briefing SNBS team row modern equipment

Security on the Seine leaves no room for improvisation: everything is prepared so that even novices feel serene, at all times. The facilities are also the pride of the club: some elders tell how the quality of the equipment has often reassured new members, especially in case of uncertain weather or during the first mistakes – this famous oblivion of vests does not save anyone!

Just like that.Decinois rowing club in Décines-Charpieu near Lyon, the SNBS makes it a point of honour to combine sports excellence and benevolent hospitality for all the enthusiasts of the rowing.

Graduated and attentive management

The SNBS works rigorously in terms of coaching: each key niche is provided by graduate mentors, all federal patent holders, trained in multigenerational coaching. The learning of technical gestures (balance, train handling, safety rules) is progressive and individualised: each newcomer joins a suitable path, surrounded by pairs or groups of progression.

It happens regularly that friendly reminders and advice are given on water or during earth workshops (especially on ergometers), which contributes to collective confidence.

  • Security Briefingbefore each boarding on water
  • Presence of graduate mentors (federal patents, first aid skills)
  • Equipment verified and maintained at each session by the technical team
  • Complete facilities: equipped changing rooms, club house, rowing tanks and fitness equipment accessible all year round

Thus, most beginners quickly join groups adapted to their progress – the smile shared during the first successful start remains an emblematic moment (ten volunteers who remember their own experience).

Club life, events, governance and values: more than just a training place

At SNBS, one comes first to set foot in the row, but attachment usually arises from the unique atmosphere and associative life. The structure, led by involved volunteers and a dynamic steering committee, makes it an honour to promote conviviality, exchange and access to sporting events.

There is always the pleasure of crossing rowers of all ages, and it is noted that the Seine plays the role of a real social bond – much more than just a stretch of water to cross.

Internal organization and milestones

The voluntary model ensures true participation: each member can make his/her voice heard, join commissions or propose initiatives, which broadens the diversity of projects. The major events mark the calendar: national regattas, interclubs, festive or competitive outings open to everyone.

Last notable example: the Fête de la Saint-Cloud brings together almost a hundred participants, rowers and fans, in the club house and on the Seine every year – a great opportunity to convey the SNBS spirit and create new links.

An educator recently reported that these events remain among the best memories of her years at the club.

  • Annual General Meeting to which each member is invited
  • Partnerships with Urban Sports Club, local schools, recognized federal structures
  • Transparency: history, statutes, rules searchable online
  • Photo gallery and charts available on the club's website to discover associative life

It is not enough to have a structure: the SNBS has been able to maintain a collective soul. Over time, self-help, the availability of volunteers and the tradition of hospitality have become unwavering landmarks.

We attach ourselves to the little attentions of everyday life – advice slid in the ear of a beginner, a smile of camaraderie, spontaneous help before an effort: this is the "viron magic"! A coach still recently confided that it is precisely these moments, out of measure, that mark the most and make you want to come back.
